SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL TRAINEES

in the North East and North Cumbria

Supporting our trainees

We all know that modern-day life is busy; coupled with the demands of medical training, there can be a lot to cope with. Here in the North East and North Cumbria we have robust systems in place to make sure our trainees are well supported throughout their career with us.

Trainee support service

Supporting trainees who experience health, behavioural, performance or educational difficulties during their training is something we feel strongly about. We are dedicated . to helping support trainees to remain in practice or return to the workplace. Our trainee support service has been established to provide specialist support for doctors and dentists in training who are experiencing difficulties that are affecting their ability to train. The service is intended to provide information to your employer on how you can be supported to remain or return to the workplace.

We’re listening

Listening to our trainees about their experiences – the good and the bad – is really important to us here in the North East and North Cumbria. It’s an essential part of making sure we know what’s working well and where we need to improve, so our trainees can thrive and be the best doctors they can be.

Our trainee executive forum is just one of the many opportunities for our medical and dental trainees to get involved, share their ideas or raise concerns – as well as influence the shape of training. It’s chaired and run by our doctors and dentists in training. Many of those involved find it rewarding with opportunities to gain experience in leadership and management – as well as the chance to improve the working lives of colleagues in the region.

You can find you more about the forum on the Made in HEENE website or hear first-hand from our trainees.

Supporting you to return to training

At any time around 10 percent of doctors and dentists take time out of training for a variety of reasons from parental leave and sickness, to out of programme activities and research. Whatever the reason, we recognise returning to training can be a difficult and stressful time and we’re here to support and guide you through this process. This includes our regional SuppoRTT programme events that trainees can attend for training, support, mentoring and coaching.
