Getting around

No matter where you end up training, you can be sure that with great transport links and infrastructure, living here means you’re never far from what you need and with some of the lowest commuting times in the country, you'll have more of the day to enjoy for yourself too.

Travel times

The perception that to travel between parts of our region requires a flask and a blanket is incorrect. You can in fact travel between most of our major towns and cities in under an hour – less time that it takes to get across London.

Not only is it easy to get around or out of our region, but it’s also a pleasant experience. In Newcastle, the iconic Central Station has recently undergone an £8.6m renovation seeing an exciting facelift to the rail gateway that can whisk you to the capital in under three hours. You’re also a stone’s throw from the Scottish border by car and a quick 1hr 20mins via a stunning coastal train journey to its capital Edinburgh. Equally stunning is any journey in or out of Durham by train where you will be treated to one of the most incredible vistas of Durham Cathedral and the city below.

Newcastle International Airport is one of the North East’s great success stories and has benefited from more than £250 million in investment over the last 30 years. Recently it has seen its departure lounge transformed with a range of fantastic new restaurants, bars and shops.

OUR AWARD WINNING AIRPORT

Newcastle Airport was recently voted as one of the finest on earth. In early 2018, our Geordie transportation hub was named best in its category in the annual Airport Service Quality Awards meaning that it is judged to be the best small airport for customer service in Europe.
