How many roles are available and where are they based?
We support four trainees in the trust for each intake, however this may be increasing to five in the future. The majority of your time will be spent at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Trainees will also spend time at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton as well as a small amount of time on community hospital visits. Our programme also includes a two week cross sector element based in a community pharmacy setting.
What makes us special?
Our pre-registration trainee pharmacist programme is innovative, clinically orientated and demonstrates all aspects of pharmacy in the NHS. Our varied rotational programme reflects the comprehensive and diverse pharmaceutical service we provide to the many specialities within the trust, including:
- cardiology/cardiothoracics
- neurosciences
- renal medicine
- cancer
- paediatrics
- trauma and spinal injuries
- surgical services
- acute medicine.
We offer the greatest range of specialist services between Newcastle and Leeds, including being the major trauma centre for the South Durham, East Cleveland, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire areas. Throughout the programme, trainees will develop and strengthen pharmaceutical knowledge and skills, supporting them to become a confident and competent registered pharmacist. Experience in aseptic production and clinical trials are also included in the programme. We also continue to offer a two week cross sector element to the programme to give trainees valuable experience in the community pharmacy setting.
