Pharmacy training at
TEES, ESK AND WEAR VALLEYS
NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist mental health trust covering a large area from North Durham to North Yorkshire. We offer a six month split training programme with LloydsPharmacy.
What we offer
We offer a rotational programme at the trust consisting of placements across our three main sites in Darlington, Durham and Middlesbrough. This allows experience to be gained in variety of directorates including:
adult mental health
mental health services for older people
children and young people’s services
eating disorder services
forensic and secure services
Trainees also spend six months in a Lloyds Pharmacy branch, developing valuable community pharmacy skills.
How many trainees do you support each year?
Every year we support two trainees, one is employed by ourselves and the other by LloydsPharmacy. During your time you will have the opportunity to work from:
West Park Hospital (Darlington)
Roseberry Park Hospital (Middlesbrough)
Lanchester Road Hospital (Durham)
Lloydspharmacy allocated branch (negotiable location).
What makes us special?
We are the only trust in the north east to offer a split training programme with community pharmacy and our trainees therefore have the opportunity to develop skills in the hospital and community pharmacy environments. This allows trainees to develop well rounded training, providing experience to allow them to progress into community or hospital pharmacy at the end of their pre-registration year.
During their community pharmacy placement, trainees will have the opportunity to develop skills in over the counter sales/counselling, medicines use reviews and the new medicines service.
As we are a mental health trust, we can offer specialist mental health pharmacy training across a variety of services. Our trainees are based solely in the clinical environment as our dispensing services are provided by LloydsPharmacy. To complement this, we also currently offer a two week placement and several clinical study days with a local acute hospital trust, allowing trainees to broaden their clinical experience even further.
We have a range of Band 6 positions within our teams.
