What makes us special?
As a relatively small department we are able to provide training that is tailored to individuals’ needs and learning style, progressively challenging our pre-registration pharmacists to deal with more complex situations and take on more responsibility. Ultimately providing our pre-registration pharmacists with the practical knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to facilitate the transition from student to practising pharmacist.
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute hospital services at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
Our pre-registration pharmacists’ are based at The Cumberland Infirmary site. Clinical specialities provided by the Trust include Cardiology, Emergency Assessment Units (Medical and Surgical), Elderly care, Gastroenterology, General surgery, Intensive Treatment Unit, Neurology/Neuro rehabilitation, Orthopaedics, Renal Unit, Paediatrics/Special Care Baby Unit, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention lab, Respiratory, Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and Women’s Health.
Our training programme ensures that you will gain a broad experience of hospital pharmacy, spending time in distribution, dispensary, our newly commissioned aseptic services suite and ward-based clinical pharmacy in addition to undertaking a two week placement in community pharmacy.
Although the possibility of future job opportunities is difficult to predict as a department we have a large proportion of pharmacists who have completed their pre-registration training with us.
